Some of my favorites are Pop Culture Happy Hour, Freakonomics, and Hard Core History. Not sure what to read or listen to but looking for something new and interesting, just ask and I am sure we can find something that you will like.

FAVORITE QUOTES ABOUT BOOKS

Andres Neuman, The Things We Don’t Do“To narrate is to seduce: never completely satisfy the reader’s curiosity.”
William Gass, author of Eyes: Novellas and Short Stories“The true alchemists do not change lead into gold; they change the world into words.”
Azar Nafisi, Reading Lolita in Tehran“Do not, under any circumstances, belittle a work of fiction by trying to turn it into a carbon copy of life; what we search for in fiction is not so much reality but epiphany of truth.”

FUN FACTS

I look for books that draw me into the characters’ lives with an intensity that, when I finish, I mourn the loss of the time we’ve spent together. I look for language that takes my breath away, with either its beauty or its starkness. I look for stories that allow for ambiguity of outcomes, but give me a good thriller any day to fill in the gaps. Some of my favorite books are The Dog Stars, by Peter Heller, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski, and The Round House by Louise Erdrich. I have two favorite audios: A Tale for the Time Being, by Ruth Ozeki, and How to Be Both, by Ali Smith. I have two addictions – coffee and book discussion groups. I’m a lover of deserts, mountains and prairies, music feeds my soul, I love to walk my bad dog Chaco, and the idea of owning NOTHING fascinates me.

I buy most of the DVDs, and science, show biz, & sports books for the library, so if you have any suggestions or we share similar interests get in touch and we’ll find you a great book, album, movie, documentary, or podcast!

FAVORITE GENRES

Music - I have a background in Classical music with a passion for many other music traditions such as Jazz, Blues, R&B, World, and Hard Rock. Whether you are interested in the latest biography about your favorite rock star or want a recommendation on late 19th century symphonic works on CD or download, I can help. If you play music professionally, I may be looking to book someone for one of our events. Please contact me!
Western and Eastern philosophy & religion - I’ve spent a lot of time surveying the various thought systems from both traditions; from Aristotle to Zizek to the Buddha through Nisargadatta Maharaj. If you have an interest in the big questions about life, reality, meaning, love, ethics, or chopping wood and carrying water, come and see me I’ll locate something for you. Quickly...what’s the sound of one hand clapping?
SciFi/Fantasy, historical fiction, and psychological thrillers, classics - I’m all over the map when it comes to Fiction so just ask :)
