The Loveland Public Library is inviting community members to help shape the future of library by serving on the Library Board. This is a meaningful opportunity to support the library’s role in serving an informed and inspired, ever-growing population. There are currently three regular board positions available for adult community members. In addition, one Youth Member position is open to local students for a one-year term aligned with the school year. Meetings occur monthly on the third Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Board members play a key role in advising the Library Director and City Council on policies, programs, and long-term planning. Whether you're passionate about public resources, education, or community engagement, your voice can help guide the library’s future.
Why Serve on the Loveland Library Board?
Serving on the Library Board is more than just a volunteer role; it offers a meaningful opportunity to influence how the library grows and serves the Loveland community. Board members provide guidance on library policies, services, and long-term planning, working closely with the Library Director and City Council. Current board member Beth describes it as “a wonderful way to get more involved in your community. You gain a deeper understanding of what’s happening in the city and have a voice in shaping how the library serves people of all ages and interests." Bob, another board member, emphasizes the value of diverse perspectives: “Having community members with a diverse set of skills provides a great way to support the work of the library both in operations and planning for the future.”
What to Expect as a Board Member
Library Board members are expected to:
- Attend monthly meetings
- Prepare for discussions and decisions
- Participate in library events
- Engage with library staff and the public
As Bob notes, “It’s important to understand that the work includes the actual monthly meeting, preparing for that meeting, participating in library events, and enjoying meeting the staff.”
The experience is both rewarding and impactful. Beth shares, “It’s meaningful to know your input helps strengthen such an important community resource.”
A Voice for Youth: Apply for the Youth Member Position
The Youth Member position is open to local students and offers a one-year term aligned with the school year. This role provides young people with a platform to represent youth perspectives, gain leadership experience, and contribute to decisions that shape library programs for teens and families.
Favorite Moments from the Board
Board service also brings moments of joy and connection. Bob says his favorite activity this year was “meeting with staff and showing appreciation for the work that they do.”
Beth loved “helping prepare the library staff’s holiday party and celebrating all the hard work they do.”
Whether you're a lifelong library supporter or a student looking to lead, this is your chance to help shape the future of the Loveland Public Library.
