Teen Volunteering
Loveland Public Library has two different volunteer opportunities for teens ages 11-17 or in 6th-12th grade. Both opportunities allow teens to earn volunteer hours, serve their community, and earn rewards for their efforts.
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) focuses on designing and implementing teen-led programs and maintaining the Teen Hangout space and materials. Teens earn volunteer hours for attending monthly TAB meetings, participating in TAB activities, and leading programs. Teens build decision making and critical thinking skills as they design and submit program ideas. They also learn leadership skills as they manage and direct programs in the Teen Hangout with help from staff. TAB runs year-round and meetings are on the first Tuesday of every month.
The Teen Summer Learning Program Volunteer opportunity runs from April-August. Teen Summer Learning Program Volunteers help staff by registering, tracking reading, and giving prizes to Summer Learning Program participants in the Children’s division. SLP volunteers may also attend TAB meetings, where they can sign up to help staff with Summer Learning Program events, as well as monthly programs during the school year. Teen Summer Learning Program Volunteer registration is April 1-30 with trainings in May.
Both opportunities require volunteers to register using the City of Loveland’s CERVIS portal, attend training, and return a volunteer consent waiver signed by a parent or guardian. All volunteers must follow behavioral expectations while volunteering. Volunteers in good standing who meet the criteria will be invited to exclusive teen volunteer appreciation events and programs. Teens who sign up for one volunteer opportunity and have maintained consistent attendance do not need to reapply each year. All Teen Summer Learning Program Volunteers can participate in TAB, but TAB members will need to attend the Summer Learning Program Volunteer Training to be able to take shifts for the Summer Learning Program.
